Fly Fishing in The Southern Rockies
High Country Anglers
Fly fishing is a great way to spend your time getting closer to nature. Local expert guides like Doc Thompson & High Country Anglers have been in business for over 25 years. You’ll be in good hands as Doc was named as Guide of the Year in 2006 and a finalist in 2017. Choose from multiple streams within the area including the Cimarron River, Red River or even the finicky and more challenging Rio Grande.
For the most fulfilling first-time fly-fishing excursion, there are 3 miles of private waters within the Cimarron River. The river is known for having the healthiest brown trout in New Mexico. There are about 4,000 of these fish ranging in size from 12-14 inches. The river is also periodically stocked with rainbow trout. Expect average sizes of rainbow trout between 10-14 inches. Doc provides half-day or full-day guided fishing trips.
