In the winter, it’s all about the snow and the mountains. Celebrate the winter season at 8,000 feet. Angel Fire, NM becomes a winter playground with an average of 121 inches of snow.

Angel Fire is home to 80-plus ski and snowboarding slopes under azure sunlit skies. Take to the outdoors gliding down manicured skiing and snowboarding slopes. With 7 chairlifts and several food and beverage outlets perched along the mountain, everything you need to experience outdoor mountain thrills is within reach. Glide down the tubing hills or discover awe-inspiring views of elk and deer from the back of a horse-drawn sleigh. Discover a dozen snowshoeing trails in the heart of Moreno Valley. Angel Fire ignites a warm holiday spirit at its annual tree lighting ceremony and parades and has other fun winter events.

THE ONLY NEW MEXICO NIGHT SKIING

In Angel Fire, the fun doesn’t have to stop when the sun goes down. The only ski resort in New Mexico that offers night skiing, Angel Fire Resort stays open from 4-7 on weekends and holidays. On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, two torchlight parades occur annually. Sip hot cocoa or a cocktail at one of the resort’s food and beverage outlets while you watch streaks of light wind their way down the slopes.

ANGEL FIRE SNOWSHOEING & NORDIC SKIING ADVENTURES

Seven miles of cross-country and snowshoe trails wind around Angel Fire Resort with pristine views of Wheeler Peak. Expertly groomed, these trails are easy to navigate for a beginner but there is also a more challenging route for those with more experience. The Angel Fire Resort Nordic Center offers rentals and lessons. Call ahead to schedule a lesson with a cross-country ski instructor.

Outside of the resort, located within Angel Fire, there are dozens more additional scenic trails. Rent snowshoes and explore routes around Monte Verde Lake or explore nature on a  snow-covered trail through the nearby Carson National Forest.

There are many ways to explore the well-groomed trails of Moreno Valley. For cross-country skiing, there are three separate trails located on the grounds of the golf course. They range in length from 2 miles to 3 miles. The wide trails can also be used for skate skiing. The trails wind through tree lined courses and you get an inspiring view of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains from almost every angle.

Built to distribute your weight so you stay on top of the snow, snowshoeing is a great way to get out on trails and do some hiking during the winter. While there are plenty of trails within Angel Fire and on the resort, the nearby Carson National Forest has additional places to snowshoe, offering more challenging trails and a greater view of the splendid Moreno Valley. There are several local places that offer snowshoe rentals in Angel Fire.

SLIDE DOWN THE SLOPE ON A SNOW TUBE

The Polar Coaster at Angel Fire Resort offers 3 tubing lanes that send you down an exhilarating ride at a vertical 1,000 feet. Don’t worry, you don’t have to climb back up to the top to ride again. A magic carpet will take you back up to the top of the hill. The longest tubing hill in all of New Mexico, this is a must-do activity for a generous amount of winter fun.  Tubing can be booked ahead for one-hour blocks online. Riders must be 42 inches tall. Only one person per tube is allowed.

SLEDDING IN ANGEL FIRE

Located at the driving range of Angel Fire Country Club, the sledding hill is a great option for a fun-filled day with your children. Slide down 150 to 200 feet of wintery slopes over and over again for the ultimate family fun.

While parents are required to be at the hill, they can opt to watch their children sled from an outdoor bench while they enjoy a drink or snack from the Par & Grill Restaurant.

Hit the Slopes a New Way with Ski Bikes

Ever dreamed of mountain biking down the mountain when it’s covered in snow? You can with ski bikes! Hit the slopes with this fun and thrilling way to “ski” the mountain.

TAKE A MAGICAL WINTER RIDE ON A HORSE-DRAWN SLEIGH

Who doesn’t want to experience a majestic ride through a beautiful snow-laden mountain valley? Nancy Burch at Road Runner Tours provides seasonal sleigh rides throughout the Moreno Valley. Your experience begins with hot cocoa and cookies at The Campfire Cafe.

Expect to see wildlife like deer, elk and bald eagles. With stops for photo ops amid the land of enchantment, your memories of winter mountain fun can be captured and viewed for years to come.

Get your group together for the ultimate way to explore the wintery wonders of Angel Fire. Sit back and relax as you are guided through a gentle snowfall from the vantage point of a horse-drawn sleigh. Let yourself be mesmerized by the beauty of white draped nature.
