Summer Activities For All Ages
With average daily highs ranging from 70 to 80 degrees, Angel Fire is a top destination in New Mexico for people looking to escape the heat. They come for the beautiful scenery, fishing, water sports, hiking and bike trails.
For guided daily activities (and to give Mom and Dad a break), the Community Center offers Camp Angel Fire. Kids will partake in activities like tennis, hiking, swimming, golf and also be given plenty of opportunities to be creative through arts and crafts. The kids’ camp is for ages 5-12. Sign your kids up by the day, week or all summer long.
Easy & Eye Pleasing Hikes
The greenbelt trail system winds through the village of Angel Fire. It’s a great place to start. These trails were built for you to explore on non-motorized pathways so feel free to walk, bike or push a stroller without worrying about any vehicle traffic. Stroll serenely under golden aspens and ponderosa pines. Meadows with wildflowers and sightings of animals can be experienced on your journey throughout town.
A couple of the more easy hiking trails include the mile-long Monte Verde Lake loop. Near the heart of Angel Fire, it loops you around the shores of this spring-fed lake. Here you may glimpse trout, people fishing, and maybe even a bald eagle or two.
The five-mile Deer, Linx, Bobcat Loop will take you closer to the forest and grassy knolls of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. A peaceful trail, by many accounts over groomed grass amid varying landscapes from shady tree-lined paths to fields of wildflowers. Be on the lookout for deer, elk and more wildlife.
Water Activities At Monte Verde Lake
Everyone can appreciate the beautiful mountain scenery around Monte Verde Lake. The lake is stocked with rainbow trout for a family fun fishing day. You can rent paddle boards, pedal boats and canoes. There are also picnic tables and benches if you want to share a meal or just sit to enjoy the view.

A Winter Mountain Vacation For Your Family To Enjoy
In the winter, it’s all about the snow and the mountains. For beginners, the Angel Fire Resort offers both skiing and snowboarding schools. There are plenty of beginner and moderate-level trails to choose from. Seven chairlifts take you to several drops in the slopes. Also located on the mountain are various outlets where you can take a break and refuel with snacks and drinks.
For the non-down-hill skiers in your group, there are groomed trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Tubing is an exhilarating way to experience the rush down the mountain in a relatively safe way. For the kids, there is a ski hill near the country club where parents can either partake or watch with a beverage from a nearby bench.

There are several family-friendly restaurants located either on or near the mountain. Choose from traditional southwest cuisine, pizza, hot dogs and more!
If you’ll be in Angel Fire over the holidays, kids have the chance to meet Santa at the Tree Lighting Festival or the Holiday Market. There are holiday activities, crafts, cocoa to drink and merriment to be made.
